Unfortunately, if you don't have the original mag and cassette, it's nearly impossible to find out the game's original name.

The only two Playgames numbers I know of are HERE, but there's only a Pengo version (with the original name?) for ZX Spectrum. :?

Yes orion, you're right... I couldn't excpect that someone might understand what i was saying just reading my fairly poor description. I should go down to my parents basement to try to find out my old cassette, wishing they didn't get it away!!!! Keep in touch....

Stumbled upon this thread recently. I remember one of my favorite VIC-20 games back in 1986 was "Penco" - a Pengo clone from the german "64er Sonderheft 3/1986" (Commodore 64 paper mag special issue)

A disk image of the programs of that issue can be found here and it includes Penco:

8K Expansion required.

LOAD"PENCO",8,1

Strange way to start a game, but worth it!

So true!
My brother and I typed it in (an almost infinite number of hex numbers) and played it for hours/days/month...
And it's also nice in green ;)

OK, you may download the crunched autostarting prg file here.

Please note that at the first play the border below has some strange garbage chars, all is ok from the second play

Maybe the program assumes value 0 in some memory location btw after the first play the game is fully playable.

PS: If at the first play you get the 3 special block, it will fix the border garbage problem
