Trying to remember a game

Post by jboy55 »

I remember an awesome defender/chopper command clone that was a tape for the VIC. I've searched and I can't remember it, but I think it was named Tomcat or something like that.

My memories tell me that the graphics were unusually good, much better then Chopper Command for the Atari. Can anyone help me remember or point me to a tape file?

Thanks
John

My guess is: Choplifter?

No, it wasn't this one...

I remember it was a tape, it loaded pretty quick. We bought 2 tapes from the same company I think at a Zellers in Canada. This was around when the C128 was just released, because as I was oggling it, I noticed some Vic Cassettes. The graphics on the tape cover looked pretty 'cool' too.

It was skyhawk!

I always thought the plans were better, but I think the missles were awesomely rendered. The buildings on the bottom were pretty cool as well.

Downloading the .TAP

Wow! Those buildings do look very nice! I may have to steal that perspective / shadow technique.

Skyhawk is impressive, indeed. It's similar also to C64's Falcon Patrol:

Skyhawk's a great game. I only discovered this gem last year when having a VIC session with Vic20-Ian. I was so impressed. It feels more like an early C64 game than something from the humble VIC. I'll have to try Falcon Patrol to see how it compares... :)

Maybe you could use that style for Galactic Warriors? :P
