New Release: Galactic Warriors

Post by Jeff-20 »

Galactic Warriors
A game for the Unexpanded Vic 20, Joystick required. All BASIC.

Image

It's summer. Time for a kick-ass arcade style space game! This one has some military strategy elements, so it may be a little more complicated than a shoot 'em up.

As usual, the game works on VICE, but I feel it's much more impressive on a real VIC because of some new special effects I'm using.

Game Play:
The object of the game is to invade enemy grounds and destroy the alien Mothership.

Pilot your Galactic Warcraft into the enemy territory. Destory the guard fleet and enter the enormous Mothership. Find the core reactor. Destroy it with your photon cannon and escape before the ship explodes.

Control your ship with the joystick.

Fire Button activates your primary weapon.

Press any key to toggle your primary and secondary weapon. You start with laser cannon as primary and no secondary weapon. You may only carry two weapons at one time.

Power Ups:
Laser Cannon - destroys small enemy crafts
Photon Cannon - more powerful than lasers, limited to 5 shots
Warp Speed - increase the speed of your ship
Shield - temporary protection from enemy fire
Cloaking Device - puts your craft in stealth mode for 15 seconds
Energy Bomb - destroys all space crafts on screen

Beware of enemy ships, worm holes, and satellites.

:D Thanks Jeff - it's one of the best Shoot'em Ups - EVER!
You know it's not my favourite genre, but this one's going to be my everyday game!

Wow! Your genius in BASIC coding never fails to impress me. Minter wishes he could code like you... :)

Wow, this is the first time I've ever used an SYS command in any program. I'm inching uncomfortably away from BASIC.

Now that's some impressive work!

Though admittedly this probably summed up my original thoughts about the release ;)

Me likey. The music is particularly catchy although I have this strange feeling I've heard it before.

Everyone: Send your Mega-Carts back to 6502dude for a ROM upgrade. This one is worthy of inclusion.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

First of all: WOW. Your style never ceases to amaze me. And that you do all of this in BASIC. The scroll is clunky, but somewhat expected when using character graphics.

Secondly, what are those? Alien goldfish?! ;-)

Thirdly, 2010 called and said that you should start posting screenshots:

Wow! Very impressive! The fact that you crammed such an expansive game into an unexpanded Vic-20's memory is insane. But that you got this kind of speed in BASIC!? It's unreal!
Can't wait to play it on real Vic tonight! :D

Did anyone else find the Easter Egg in Jeff's new game? 8)

I did, after downing the mother ship using the wave-motion gun, you need to quickly arm your sidewinders and shoot the escape pod released ... as the spaceman floats out, switch back to lasers and then you will see the "secret bonus" ... :D
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
