Install Gamebase (I had it previously installed)
Download the Vic20 Gamebase v2
Unzip the package to gamebase folder on desktop or another folder
Unzip extras to folder extras in the gamebase folder
Unzip games to folder games in the gamebase folder
Unzip screenshots to folder screenshots in the gamebase folder
Unzip winvice-2.1 to folder winvice-2.1 in the gamebase folder
Unzip Vic20_v2 to folder in the gamebase folder - you should get 2 folders
1. program files - seems to be redundant
2. Vic20_v02
Copy the whole Vic20_v02 folder to c:\program files\gamebase
Start Gamebase - you should see a Vic20_V02 label under a Commodore logo - double click this
Go to tools menu and set paths to the directories for Games, Extras, screenshots
Go to the Gemus menu and select Emulator set up wizard
Start
Select Vic 20
Navigate to the folder with winvice in my case c:\users\ian\desktop\gamebase\winvice-2.1
This should pick up winvice 2.1 and then confirm.
After this all should be working.
Just used it to play ten ten for the first time - excellent puzzler, really nice.
Hope you had a great Christmas and Best Wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2010.
After this description, I got it to work! Thanks!
But I can only play about half of the games (the ones with a joystick in front of them). Isn't my paths set up correctly? Should you add more than one path for the games?
PRG Starter - a VICE helper / Vic Software (Boray Gammon, SD2IEC music player, Vic Disk Menu, Tribbles, Mega Omega, How Many 8K etc.)
1,023 are instantly playable with all the ram configurations and gamepath set up for us - superb !
within the Extras/Tap folder are 32 3K taps, 80 8k taps, 84 16k taps and 428 unexpanded taps. 624 in total
1647 entries minus 1023 playable = 624 without a gamepath. these are the taps ! ( i think.. not gone through them all yet)
i am manually adding the gamepath to each of these
firstly : tools->paths->games tab : i am adding Extras as a gamepath (i now have 2, /Games and /Extras)
i then right click on a game which does not have the joystick icon (in this instance - Wunda Walter) and i select Game File. i change the path from /Games to /Extras and then browse to 16k taps. Wundwalt.zip is the one. click ok. joystick icon appears !
to quickly see the list of 'non joystick icon files' - i click 16K Ram expansion and then press CTRL G on each of files with missing game paths. hasnt taken long to add them.
338 healthy downloads ! awesome work Mayhem !!
edit - Avenger by Commodore seems to be missing, is this in under another name ? cheers.
The TAPs are all linked through the EXTRA button on the bottom right hand side so you shouldn't need to manually link them... and Avenger is listed under "VIC Avenger".
yes i noticed you could click 'extras' and then 'tap' and the game would work
i just like double click !
there are some games which could possibly do with 2 entries e.g o level adventure has an arcade version and an adventure version
this is an awesome piece of work, am catching up on the action ! - just played frogger (2007) and tetris (2008) - both absolutely superb ! and parachute from 2008 is way cool as well
It's one game with two parts, so there's just one entry for that. You complete the arcade game and are then given the password to access the adventure game.
What I will need to do though is separate some games into multiple entries because they were released more than once (eg. Nufekop games published also by Rabbit and Bubble Bus in the UK).
Mayhem, some of the files you put in the Base in TAP format, are in Formater's Pack in PRG, D64 or T64. You can put these versions as well in news releases of Gamebase.
I generally shy away from T64 unless absolutely necessary (Tank Arkade). PRG is preferable, although if it's a multiload then it'll be D64. I haven't had the time yet to go through the huge ZIP but I will do in due course...
