I've seen this software "Gortek and the Microchips" from time to time, but what exactly is it? Is it a game? Is it a learning program? Just curious.

It's a 'Teach Yourself BASIC' kind of thing with a book that tells you how to do that through various child friendly characters. Help Gortek save the universe through learning to program... 
It's for children but I think it's a nice collector's thing - especially if you can get a copy with the badge (I haven't!).
