No one would bother even trying after Apple's handling of the C64 emulator. Apple finally puts the C64 emulator on the App Store, but then pulls it a day later--supposedly over the BASIC interpreter.
Imagine exactly how functional a VIC20 emulator would be with the BASIC ROMs removed (you'd pretty much have to remove the ROMs to remove the BASIC interpreter). Would there even be a point?
So what's the best mobile VIC20 emulation option, anyway? Obviously, a netbook with VICE works, but that's very big and bulky compared to a cell phone or a Gameboy. Various gaming handhelds are nice and small, but they lack a keyboard.
Right now, I'm using a Toshiba Libretto with VICE. It's smaller than a netbook, but it's still about the size of a paperback book.
You can forget about VIC20 on iPhone...

There is still cydia distrubution. Apple may stop the official channels but they cant stop the unofficial ones.
And it seems with a little work if you did get the C64 emulator for Iphone you can add new and better games just by copying the game directories, changing a set up file, dropping a new t64 into it and off it goes. Not had any luck with d64 file yet as they seem to use a save game state which I cant seem to recreate
As for best mobile vic currently availiable then it has to be PSP or GP2x

Well they are not for sale anymore but the GP2X had pretty decent handheld Vic20 emulation although no keyboard. Great device, and you can find them on ebay.IsaacKuo wrote: So what's the best mobile VIC20 emulation option, anyway? Even better, you should check out the Pandora project which will very likely have VICE ported over as well. It's the ultimate open source handheld. They are very close to finishing the first production run. I've been on the waiting list for a year (lots of delays). Has the potential to be one hell of a product and definitely has a solid community behind it.

Interesting device, cool video of it hooked up to a projector:carlsson wrote:I read VICE is ported to Dingux, the Linux operating system you can install on a Dingoo A320. It may also be a worthy contender.

Apple's been remarkably douchey about the way it's handled iPhone apps, hasn't it? We can't have a Commodore 64 emulator because it would give hackers a back door into the hardware (a back door that's already been blown wide open with jailbreaks), but we CAN have all the fart apps we want! Yeah, thanks guys. Thanks also for forcing us to use the touchscreen for every game, even ones like Pac-Man and Galaga that should never, ever be played that way. If Steve "Blow" Jobs wasn't such an arrogant putz, maybe he would acknowledge that the iPhone isn't manna from the heavens and that maybe, just maybe, it can't do everything without accessories.
