A History of Computer Storage formats

Post by ral-clan »

Article on the history of computer storage formats.

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/c ... page=0%2C0

It shows a VIC datasette (but mentions the C64 among others and not the VIC).

Nice!

I can think of a few formats they missed, such as the QIC backup tape carts and the DDS tapes still in use today but most of the mainstream formats are there.

Qic was mentioned on page 3 of the article.

DDS, DLT, & LTO3 essentially use same concept as T10000 Magnetic Tape noted on page 2.

I stopped using DDS3 for backup of my home systems a couple of years ago and now use DLT4.

It is a good article and interesting read.

Noteworthy, the stickers on the 5.25" and 3.5" floppies...

"Maniac Mansion" and "The day of the tentacle"...
