Forgive me for taking up so much space to explain this. I'm not going to answer the poll because it's complicated, but I spent years without an accessory, device or cart. I found my original handwritten list of games, so I know the precise order. It was something like this:
VIC 20
(years pass)
Gridrunner
(another year passes)
Omega Race
Pacman
(got both on same day for my birthday. Thanks, Dre)
Then I got a six pack of Tape Games with no tape drive! TORTURE! I would never get to play those tapes as they deteriorated over time. I bought the same pack later on eBay (Vic Synthesizer, Treasures of the Bat Cave, Super Seekers, Alpha Draw, Big Bad Wolf, Crawler). The names were tempting, and I would read the instructions over and over trying to imagine the games. No pictures in the manual.
(years pass)
Super Smash
Tooth Invaders
(many many years pass and I would discover a kid selling games near my house)
Adventureland
Pole Position
The Count
Ms Pacman
Jupiter Lander
After that, many years would pass, and I would discover thrifts stores and ebay to build my current collection.

Original Carts back in the old days:
All the Scott Adams adventues
Submarine Commander
Capture the Flag
Radar Rat Race
River Rescue
Chuck Norris Superkicks
Spikes Peak
Robin Hood
Spikes Peak/Haunted Mansion (double ender)
My all time favorite game was Submarine Commander.
I also found that alot of people have the scott adams carts due to the fact that commodore over time sold the entire set with the purchase of a Vic-20.
