GUI

Post by JoshuaHorn »

Has anyone written a GUI in VIC-20 basic? - that like uses the joystick port as a mouse or something? - Just curious

This has been a long-time dream for me. I want to make a windows-like GUI in BASIC just to say I did. I'll collaborate if such a project is wanted.

Yep, there's one for the unexpanded VIC.

Joshua - I'm joking of course, go on with that and give us a proper Magic Desk for the VIC :D .

I guess this one constitutes prior art to Apple's patent filing of a 3D desktop. ;)

Déjà vu: Magic Desk -> Microsoft Bob -> Apple's 3D DTE. Both Microsoft and Apple never invent anything.

Contiki has a conio GUI called ctk. While it is written in C, I think one could use part of it.

The question is if you're looking for a ready-made application using some kind of graphical interface or a toolkit to link your own programs to.

I wonder if "DotBasic Plus" could be ported to the VIC (with memory expansion)? It was a BASIC extension for the C64 published by LoadStar a couple of years ago. It provides a lot of new commands to help making GUIs, among other things.

Here's a thread about it:
