The Year 2008 in Denial

Post by Jeff-20 »

We had 16 software releases, one hardware release. I would say it was pretty productive year!

What do you think were the most significant VIC developments of 2008, and what are your thoughts on 2009? What's on the horizon?

We're going to get the MegaCart in 2009 so that's going to be great. It's going to be hard to top 16 software releases though. 2008 was a hell of a year.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

Agree- 2008 will be difficult to beat. I would also include in last year's remarkable efforts the complete type-in collection from Italian magazine Papersoft (mostly CG translations, but with some previously unpublished material). :D

Oh yes, our 2008 summer real hot work

I must admit that the 2008 was productive for me too:
Tetris+, PaperSoft and MegaCart (for all the year  ) Menu, PAL/NTSC rom fixes, Site and much more but you will see all this work on 2009
Mega-Cart: the cartridge you plug in once and for all.

nbla000: Have you considered a vacation? You need a chance to relax. Perhaps a bath with some candles and soothing sounds... ;)

Aha, so that's the real reason why NBLA000 has been nagging me to compose more VIC-20 music lately, to accompany his bubble bath. Well, now I know what his Achilles' heel is.

For me I think the biggest thing to happen in 2008, in a VIC sense anyway, was discovering this site and its pretty active forum. Super geeky people playing about on a computer from quarter of a century ago - what more could you ask for! :)

For 2009 it's a given (unless there's a really big secret!) that the Mega-Cart will be the biggest thing in the VIC world. I do plan on writing a wee game for the VIC (a 'companion' game to a C64 thing I'm working on). So that'll be big for me...

As for hopes for the future I would like to see a really good emulator with 100% accuracy. Well, I can dream! :P

2008 also saw the creation of good online VIC emulators. Emulators I am still willing to host here if the authors are finished with changes.

What, not the next release of Gamebase20? I'm deeply hurt!

(only kidding, I'm looking forward to the Megacart immensely as well heh)

Yeah, the online emu by Kweepa is pretty cool but it's a nightmare to play on my laptop with no number pad and a native resolution of 1920x1200! At least it has a decent aspect ratio (I'm looking at you ViCE!).

As for GB20 the only reason I didn't mention it is because I didn't want to jinx it. :P

What the hell is a geinsha? Isn't that a Japanese hooker? :?

If it has anything to do with sex, then you're right the wife won't agree
