Yes, it did ring a small bell inside the TTY machine.

I used to have a 33ASR TTY until about 10 years ago and would print via RS232 port with Vic-20 & C128.

They make quite a racket when printing!

I would always use CTRL-G to notify my friends that our download was complete when we were doing direct C64 to C64 file transfers at 1200 baud.

It took a long time to transfer a game, so most people would walk away from the computer, and the bell would tell them to come back.

Also, I would use it to annoy my friends who didn't know about CTRL-G and wondered how the heck I was making a bell ring on their computer (when we used to be chatting via modem prior to doing a file transfer).
