Strange keyboard mystery.

I was going through my old VICs, and I found a strange mystery. On one VIC keyboard, when I attempt to type $, only one shift key works.

Holding down the left shift and 4 produces a 4 (it doesn't work). Only the right shift key and 4 produces a $. Not so strange, but the left shift key works without fail for other keys.

After some experimenting it seems that the left shift key only affects some keys and not others. The right shift key functions with all keys. Why?

Perhaps a partly bad 6522 VIA chip in your computer?

I've seen this on one of my VICs as well. No idea what the cause is, but it's not unique to that VIC.
