Cartridge Expander for VIC-1001

From the "What the heck is that thing"? department.

There's a very large expansion unit plugged into the cartridge port. I've seen that in a couple of VIC-1001 photos. Anyone have any details on what it is?

That is strange looking... Also looks to be about the same form factor as the VIC's breadbox.

I spent weeks searching in Japan. It was like a murder mystery. I collected a bunch of clues and closed in on the suspect. But eventually, it evaded me. I still have a few good hunches on where to pick up the trail. One day, I WILL own one of those machines!

It seems to me like the japanese see the vic as an after-thought. Much like North Americans see the Tomy Tutor as nothing special. I suspect many japanese VICs found their way to the trash.

You are indeed correct, it is a VIC-1010. :D

OH MY GOSH!!!  :!:

MORE IMPORTANT than the fact that the above photo shows a VIC-1010 is the fact that it seems to show an OFFICIAL COMMODORE VIC-20 monitor! This is the very FIRST and ONLY confirmation I have ever seen of this piece of hardware in all my years of being involved in VIC-20 history research. It even looks like it has a VIC-XXXX code on it (but is too small to read - possibly VIC-1510).

Does anyone know of a better resolution picture? Was this ever actually marketed?

Great eye! I hadn't even noticed that! Yes, we need better resolution.

Very good :)

I've just realised I've got a complete Vic-1010 sitting waiting for me to collect next month at a mate's place. I traded it off him months ago but as I'd visited by train, couldn't lug it back home.
