Mancave

Post by rhurst »

My mancave was recently renovated -- still only a partial picture, haha, there's an adjacent closet filled with new old monitors and tons of floppy + CD media.

I am looking to dump more of my retro gear. I recently put out on the curb a working C64, 1541 drive, 40/80 column monochrome monitor with supporting cables, power supplies, media, etc. and there were NO takers and it was so sad to see it go to the dumpster. In the past, my stuff put out always got picked up within 4 hours -- not this time.

I offloaded some miscellaneous gear onto my brother as full lots to sell, including a Plus/4 with 1551 floppy, Ti 99/4A with 20 game carts, VIC 20 with memory expanders, Tandy Color Computer with game carts to post on EBAY. I figured it was time to move on. :P

There's a shop in a neighboring town that "buys" this stuff to pawn off on the local hobbyists & enthusiasts, so I may go there to check them out. If you see something, PM me -- I'm not looking for any $$, just final resting places that won't torment my soul later, heh.

Mr. Hurst - that's not a man cave; that is a man CAVERN! Nice. Working on mine too. Post links to your auctions: I'm always open to some VIC stuff. And anything else really.

That's impressive!

I've always been jealous of you guys over the pond, where each house seems to have a large "Stranger things" style basement - perfect for our hobby. Over in the UK we build directly at ground level so my man cave/workshop/storage space is the (re-purposed) garage .

Not every home this side of the pond has a big ol' basement - here in Austin, TX, that would very much be the exception. My "mancave VIC-20 work area" looks suspiciously like the dining room table :-(

LOL- my VIC 20 work area in 1982 started on a bedside end table that barely fit the keyboard & 10" B&W RCA sportable TV with the Datasette sitting on its "shelf" below.

Cue the Monty Python "Three Yorkshiremen" sketch: "Eee, when I were a lad we 'ad no such thing as end tables, nay, we had to make do wi' cardboard box on t' floor" "Carboard box! Cardboard box! Luxury! We 'ad t' use a pile o' mud, and we were grateful!" etc. etc.

Very nice mancave. I wish I had the space for it. I only have a study room. Like the one in War games.
