"Vic Tricks" program by Jeff Minter

Post by boulinha »

Hello guys.
Looking at my old Vic20 tapes I found a program that somebody gave me on a tape. It's "VIC TRICKS" signed by Jeff Minter. I completely forgot about it.

I was googling for any information related but I didn't found anything.

It's a simple demo of some VIC capacities relating sound and colours:

Do you have any info about?

I could share .prg file

Regards

Hey,

this would be nice if you can share the prg from Jeff Minter.
The tapes are working well after 40 years?

I think it was on one of the DK'tronics compilation tapes that Jeff wrote for them. Believe I have it somewhere.

It seems it came in a 3-game pack distributed by Indescomp in Spain:

My copied tape also contains Breakout and Mastermind so it matches.

I found the tape in question for another project that's happening re Llamasoft and indeed the VIC Tricks program is on the tape I said.

Excellent find, how about dumping the original tape images as well?

I tried, a great many years ago, without any success sadly. Something about the transfers VICE just didn't like. And now the equipment I used to use for transferring tapes is rather defunct. If anyone wants to get me a DC2N or similar, I'm all ears heh.

Perhaps you could just record them as a plain mono WAV using any tape device and upload them here. I had some success recovering old tapes using this method (after applying some signal processing in Audacity). I do have an MTAP cable but it requires an old-school parallel port which is kinda hard to find these days :)

I used to use MTAP on an old 486 with the datasette, but all that equipment has gradually broken down. Plus then getting the TAP off 3.5" disks onto modern equipment! Don't have any tape device except for the C2N and 1531 here. Hence the need for new equipment.

Can you please share some pictures of the tape? It's quite interesting.

Also, as Gaia said, if you can record tape audio on a .wav file and share, we could try to extract files.

The tape has no label on it, literally. It's blank both sides. Simple inlay, and printed folded instruction sheet. I'll try to take a shot when I can!
