What would be a good game for...

Post by JonBrawn »

Wotcha!

I'm putting together a video, and I need a shot of a VIC-20 playing a game that most people will recognize but is more graphically dynamic than the venerable PacMan. I want something with movement, sound, colours, and dancing elephants. Well, maybe not the elephants. But something people (ok, people who were alive in the 1980s) will recognize.

Which game would YOU suggest for this?

If your talking about the general public I'd say it would have to be Space Invaders (Avenger is coloured) or perhaps Donkey Kong?

Victragic's Pitfall-port fits most of the above and is a recognizable 80's game, however it is not an original VIC-20-game from the era. If you want that I'd suggest Donkey Kong, Pole Position or Star Battle (= Galaxians).

Perhaps Omega Race or Radar Rat Race? Both well know VIC games.

When I think of VIC 20, I see in order Jupiter Lander, Omega Race, and Radar Rat Race.

Jupiter Lander is not (of course) Lunar Lander, but its cover art was also featured on its premier edition of Power Play which left an indelible image in my mind about that golden era of the Wonder Computer of the 1980s ("plays great games too"). :P
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Omega Race has a lot of oomf to me, but also Blitz which is very distinctive and it came with many Vic 20s from a certain point in time.

I think you're looking for Number Nabber/Shape Grabber.
