Snake Games are the Best Games

Post by AndyH »

Created a very small unexpanded game of snake to get myself back in the mood for coding for my vintage treasure.

Snake Games are the Best Games.

Four difficulty settings.
Plays in waves and rounds, each wave getting harder (faster, longer, more)
Combo move available for bonus points.
Bonus points for reaching the end of a wave.

I've spent a lot of time to get the controls instantly responsive without messing up the heartbeat of the game, no matter what difficulty speed you start at. Hopefully you will agree this works.

Will be released soon, hopefully on a cassette tape.

That looks great! I like the way the objects appear to move down the snake after they are gulped. A nice touch! :D

Looking forward to it! Man, I just bought 30 cart cases from TFW8B, so I won’t be placing an order for a while, but this’ll be at the top of my “fun stuff” list!

Nice!

Does different kinds of food make a difference or is it just visual?

Love the title (because I love snake games) and its look. Not entirely sold on a "wraparound universe" in this snake garden. :P
Maybe border up some of that with garden stones, and put in a snake "hole" that allows for selective traversing between borders?
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Bugs make you leave a mushroom behind. The fruit will leave a green jelly if you eat one of each, but a mushroom if not.

If I had more memory free I'd add some options. One idea I had was to explore a maze of different room, keeping track of your body segments as you went in and out of rooms...but that would certainly need a ram expansion.

I didn't want it to be like other snake games which generally take that approach. Get to later waves with longer and faster snakes and you need the wrap around. Although it doesn't make it easier when there are more mushrooms.

Nice vibes - although I would have preferred Christmas 82, being more in the Vic's heyday with it being discontinued in Jan 1985.

Haha yea that was a restriction of the app I used, called vhs 1984. Although I was still a vic 20 user in 1984.
