Memory trainer - Vic20 - unexpanded

"Concentration, also known as Memory, Shinkei-suijaku (Japanese meaning "nervous breakdown"), Matching Pairs, Match Match, Match Up, Pelmanism, Pexeso or simply Pairs, is a card game in which all of the cards are laid face down on a surface and two cards are flipped face up over each turn." - Wikipedia

Match the cards with the same figurines. Each turn is made up of two card flips. On the second flip the turn indicator at the top of the screen is decreased by one and there will also be a sound indicating the end of the turn. If you manage to match all the cards before the turns run out you get a bonus and the next round starts, but now with less turns. And that's the game. Now go train your brain!

Controls:
Joystick
left/right/up/down
fire button turns a card

The story: It is 1940, and you are the commanding officer of a Wolfpack (Submarines hunting targets in a co-ordinated fashion). You have to break up the convoys crossing the Atlantic ocean by sinking the defensive escort ships. You have to dodge sea mines and also depth charges dropped by the Flower-class corvette ships. Then there are also airborne torpedoes launched by sea-planes and fighter bombers from above. When you have sunk all the escort ships the convoy is yours for the taking. If you sink a Hospital ship you immediately lose a submarine. There are three submarines in your WolfPack. Good luck and keep moving!

Controls: Joystick
left/right/up/down
fire launches a forward and a vertical torpedo

We're not being invaded, we're the invaders! Yep its come to that. In the far distant future humankind finally discovers that we are not the only sentient beings in this vast universe. Because we are self-absorbed and paranoid about this sort of thing we decide to neutralize our galactic neighbours before they can get any funny ideas. There are eight inhabited moons and planets within the Alien solar system, and we have to conquer them all. That's where you come in: The best and the brightest sent to defeat our self-imposed enemy. All hail the Terran Galactic Empire and the Terran Expeditionary Force!

Tip: Keep your finger on the trigger, it's autofire.

Extra ships: There are none. If you can't complete the task at hand with the equipment at your disposal, maybe you would be more suited to a communications relay post on the far flung planetoid Pluto. I understand its quite balmy there (minus 200 Kelvin on a summers day) and the work is as exciting as watching mould grow.

On the other hand the people who download the games today are ardent fans of the VIC platform, so I feel quite honored to be able to make games for the VIC in 2022.

Last note: Never write off 8 bit computing... the more things change the more they stay the same.
Check this out.
Plastic processors costing less than a penny a piece.
When you can manufacture 4,528 transistors on a piece of plasic, well you've got the potential of a 6502.

Here's my dream: Its the year 2256. There's an astronaut trapped in a spaceship with downed power. The only electrical power they have is on their spacesuit and the only computational power available is that which is embedded within the suit itself and they have a small display on their sleeve (excluding their HUD). So while they wait for rescue, they browse the embedded small software library that can run off the embedded processors in their suit. And then hey presto, they discover a VIC20 emulator and games archive. So they play VIC20 games to keep their mind off their predicament. The Sleeping Elephant will have its revenge and the VIC will live forever! Ha hahahahahahahahahaha.
