Just received a copy of this book.never knew that it came with schematics for the early vic20 circa 1980.Outstanding.

I have two physical copies of it. One that I saved up $16.95 for, which was crazy expensive for me when I was 12. And then, as the VIC-20 gave way to the C64, I picked up another one on clearance for $2. The first one is falling apart from love and I keep it in my nightstand; the second one is the one I keep in the office for use.
In typical Commodore anything-to-save-a-buck fashion, they tried to cram 140 leafs of paper into a comb binder that was designed for like 100, so they don't really stay together very well. But the 6502 instruction reference is still the best around, so I make it work.

But isn't that the schematics for the first version vic-20 board.What year was the revised motherboard released?

The CR Revision D motherboard, probably 1983, after the C64 came out. The original schematic isn't thoroughly useless, but for my CR VICs I use the schematics at Zimmers:
