As a user from Germany, I found myself still using the older WINVICE 3.2 from time to time since the newer GTKVICE had no german keymap for the VIC-20 yet and it's annoying to find the correct key sometimes. Today I finally created a german keymap (symbolic and positional) based on the german C64-keymaps. The keyboard matrix is just slightly different on the VIC-20.
Just extract these into the VIC20-folder of GTKVICE or wait until they are (hopefully) included in the next revision, I also applied for a patch of VICE-EMU-Sourceforge for these.
For positional layout it differs a little from WINVICE 3.2, but since I wanted conformity with the C64-GTKVICE, I left those as they are, from the comments:
# keys that can't be mapped positionally are:
# (row0) pound (-> </>), clr/home (-> home)
# (row1) arrow up (-> end), restore (-> F12)
# (row2) run/stop (-> escape)
# (row3) commodore (-> control)
# extra keys are:
# clr/home (-> altgr+\)
# ins/del (-> delete)
# ins/del+shift (-> insert)
# arrow up (-> altgr+~)
# arrow up+shift (-> altgr+m)
# f1 (-> page up)
# f7 (-> page down)
# :+shift (-> altgr+[)
# ;+shift (-> altgr+])
# @ (-> altgr+Q)
