I found something on eBay that I havent seen before...

Ooh. I've seen a picture of that before, but not live on eBay. It seems to be a system for synchronizing instruments etc with recording, maybe for overdubbing purposes. The rack has inputs and outputs for MIDI etc and a SMPL bus, whatever that is - Google can probably help you. Basically a professional music mastering system built on a VIC-20. Despite the custom keyboard, it probably was cheaper than other dedicated systems, and as you can see from the cartridge, it was a rather late product so the manufacturer could probably get dirt cheap VICs to modify and sell.

I suppose a such system would store any timing schemes and data onto disk or tape, but in that case you would need to get a disk drive yourself.

Wow! A SMPTE timecode machine, now that is cool!
I imagine it probably is useless without the cartridge, but it's a damn fine piece of computer music history!
