Strange PSU in a UK auction

Post by orion70 »

Auction HERE.

Image

It's listed in the DenialWIKI page dedicated to power supplies, but apparently it's totally different from the one depicted there:

Thoughts?

The top one looks almost the same as the PSU for my Dragon 32, the only difference being that the D32 PSU is white (well it was once!)

Googling it appears that "WSW" stands for Wiener Schwachstrom Werke, an Austrian company. My guess is that CBM were unable to get enough PSUs at some point and ordered a similar part from a UK company. The shape and the rivets seem vaguely familiar, I must have seen something similar before.

The WSW one in the second picture looks fairly standard 2 pin Vic20 psu.

The riveted one is indeed unusual but made in England - it looks like one of the old Scalextrix or Hornby transformers which would likely be UK sourced.

Yes, I was going to say Scalextric. It reminds me of the one I had in the set we got for Christmas 1980 or 81.
I double checked my Dragon 32 PSU, I'm sure the case is the same, except it's white. Different internals of course.
