Tenebra Macabre
Name: Tenebra Macabre
Author: Majikeyric (code), Na_Th_an (graphics), Mibri (C64 sound)
Released: March 1st, 2019
Requirements: 32k memory expansion, PAL machine, joystick
Description: A conversion of the ZX Spectrum classic by The Mojon Twins.
Our favorite time mistress, Mega Meghan, has been locked in the dark crypt of Jurufranto Morante, the terror of Alicante.
The only way out is to activate the magic candles on each screen.
The bad thing is that, until she does, she will see less than the famous Pepe Leches.
Luckily, the storm that has been unleashed outside is charged with lightning, and the sudden and momentary glare can help you see a little where to go...
You gain a new life every 4 activated candles.
use F1 during game to turn music ON/OFF.

Incredible game, incredible conversion.. you're pampering us with these high quality products! Thanks so much for them Majikeyric
Re: Tenebra Macabre
I'm playing it now. It goes without saying that it is an impressive game for Vic and quite a stand-out in many ways. The only thing that compares, as in feeling and style, are some of Misfit's games. I need to play it a bit more before I leave additional feedback. How many candles are there?

Re: Tenebra Macabre
Thanks, I have collected 10 candles so I have got a good taste of how the game works.
As I said, it's quite a stand-out. Smooth, fast, good looking, but also very eccentric. I guess many will be put off by the unusual jumping, claustrophobic sight sphere, and the rare & short flashes. However, once you get used to its idiosyncrasies, you may find it clever and fun. I am definitely enjoying it!
Mapping is essential for any progress. Once a candle has been lighted, draw a quick layout of the room and the next time you should be able to find the candle without any loss of lives. The flashes are so short and rare that you cannot expect to play it like R'zo's Exit Plan Z & Exit Plan Z 2 - you will have to accept loss of lives the first time you visit a screen. Frustrating, yes, but a way to put more focus on the sight sphere and careful exploring. Impatient players may cheat by pausing at a flash
The lighting effects (flashes and sight cone) do look brilliant. The graphics are messy but artfully pixeled. Late 80s Japanese console game gfx filtered thorugh a Spectrum.
Thank you for porting these quirky games to Vic in such an excellent manner

Looks fantastic, will give it a go this weekend.
Also.. ports for C64 *and* 264 series, that is quite an effort.

Re: Tenebra Macabre
I have completed it... I retreated to save states but I did not completely misuse them so it was still challenging and, most importantly, very enjoyable. It's funny how well 'crude' retro games work as escapism. Very thick atmosphere in this one. Thanks again for the game!

"a PAL system is required because the game makes use of the entire width of the PAL screen (30 columns). This requirement is due to the original ZX Spectrum game whose width resolution is 240 pixels. NTSC users should use their favourite VIC20 emulator in PAL mode."
