How to Pumpkid
  • Avoid the spooky
    Get magic candy
    Zap the witch
Image

Every year witch Hazel descends upon the town and transforms into a child into a haunted pumpkin ready for harvest on All' Hallows Eve.

But all is not lost...

Fend off the witch with your candy hoard to avoid your fate on Halloween.

Beat the witch on this night to break the curse of the Pumpkid.

Instructions
Use the joystick to move Pumpkid around the cemetery avoiding all the spooky ghosts. The witch will be flying around on her broomstick and will take a life if she catches you. At midnight, the un-dead will rise from their graves so be quick.

Collect the magic candy that appears, you can carry up to 6 at a time, and fire it at the witch. A direct hit will weaken her. Six hits and she will flea, only to return the next night

Beat witch Hazel on Halloween to break the curse.

Every so often you might come across a lost child, rescue them to be rewarded with an extra life.

You have until morning to beat the witch each night.

Very nice - extremely polished and professional-looking...

AndyH - HewCo? Not THE Andy Hewson by any chance? :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

No, I believe they are still going -possibly as Huey? I’m just a humble 8-bit nostalgic coder :). Also, glad you like the game.

I had a quick go and, yes, very polished. The Game Over and Level Completed screens are really nicely done. Playfield/graphics reminded me of Jeff's It Came From The Grave so I had a quick go at that one too.

Time flies. Last year's Halloween game was Zombie Calavera Prologue. It's a nice tradition so let's hope it will live on and there will be more to come. Ghosts 'n' Goblins anyone?

If I ever get my act together and manage to make a Vic game - I am more likely to do a Christmas game though :)

Jeff's games are a big influence on this. Ghost is my favourite, I have Zombies rising animation and also loved the level transition showing the lives.

Finally got around to play this. Very attractive and professional presentation as others have noted. And gameplay is top notch too. Hunting the witch is tense and it's very satisfying to get in hits. Would make for a great score competition game here on Denial. Next Halloween perhaps :)

Thanks for the kind and positive feedback. It was meant to be a small game just before I sink my teeth into something more ambitious. My next game will hopefully make use of software sprites using a library of new commands I am making for Turbo Rascal, and then onto my dream Vic 20 game :)

Hey Andy, have you a game in-mind, or are you open to suggestions?

I know a lot of us less-talented programmers long for Vic-20 versions of some classic C-64 releases... (hint H.E.R.O.!)

How about a poll to see what would be most requested, or are you more into original creations?

Cheers,

Mike.

That is one of my favourites too. The game I’m planning is an original one, but would love to do a version of HERO in the future.

Sounds good, Andy. Looking forward to both games! :-)

P.S. You might want to update your main website - can't see any reference to Pumpkid...
