Wanted - A reliable source for character ROMs?

Post by tryitagain »

Can anyone recommend a reliable seller of character ROMs? I only need one, but every one that I've looked at is out of stock. I can't seem to find one and I don't have an EPROM burner.

The character ROM seems to go for around 15..30 $ at *bay: (link). An alternative would be a 2732 (300 ns or faster) with suitable adapter socket, as has been discussed elsewhere here in Denial.

I used a MCM68766 combined with a 74LS32.
Be normal.

I have some spare chips, but...
It's possible to program a 27C32 and place it swapping the pin 18 with the pin 21

The character ROM module from eslapion worked great. It was a EPROM with a piggyback chip as mentioned in an earlier post.

For the curious, the symptoms were that the Commodore characters would type only as alphanumeric characters. For instance, there was no way to type a heart or club. The heart came out as an 'O' and the club was similar. Outputting the heart in a BASIC prog did the same thing.

I was quite relieved to see the heart character appear when typed after installing the char ROM module. It was the last problem that I needed to fix.

Now it's time for some old Compute's Gazette games!
