"Data Error - Cyclic redundancy check"

Post by Jeff-20 »

1. My computer has been sluggish beyond belief. I decided to just wipe everything clean and return to factory settings.

2. In the preparation for the restore (backing up all my data to CDRs), I find that the CDR wizard doesn't work! It always ends in an error.

3. I try using a flash drive. It results in some hang up/crash.

4. I install NERO and try again to make a CDR. Resulting in. . .

5. "Data error - cyclic redundancy check" (a possible explaination for 2 and 3?)

6. I research the error on Google and find no simple solution. I have over 3500MB of data I would like to keep and no way to back it up.

7. I consider switching to a mac.

Jeff,

It may be that your hard drive is starting to fail (thus the CRC errors), which could also explain the sluggishness and software problems.

What OS are you using?

XP.

I suspected either HD failure or a virus of some sort. Is this repairable?

Jeff,

You should be able to recover some data :), but try not to use the drive too much (especially writing) before you get stuff off. The more you use it, the more likely it will destroy existig data.

I have PM'ed you a few suggestions...
