More wiki questions

I'd like to spend some time expanding and improving the wiki entries, I think it's a good way of storing the detailed knowledge we've built up on Denial.
Wikis work best where there is some consistency in structure and layout. Naming of articles is a bit random, some have the 'part' number, e.g. http://sleepingelephant.com/denial/wiki ... ar_Ratrace and others don't, http://sleepingelephant.com/denial/wiki ... c_Cruncher. Including the number makes names rather long and clunky, but for some items, e.g. the 16K RAM cartridge, something is needed to disambiguate the CBM one from more generic ones.

I'd like to propose removing the number from the article name, then where necessary add a suffix like '(CBM)'. We can then have redirects from the number, or any combination of number and title. This means that we can have one entry for say, Super Expander, which covers the three variants rather than having three rather short separate ones.

I've been editing articles on wikipedia for a long time, but I don't want to impose their conventions here unnecessarily.

I agree with your proposal as well. I like things when they are consistently organized like that. As you probably no, though, if you are removing the part number from the title, it should appear somewhere else in the article.

Another option would be to organize by game title, with part number following i.e.

Cosmic Cruncher (VIC-1024)

I'm just making that number up because I don't remember the actual number.

I wonder if there can be a template or something like an instruction sheet on the Wiki to make stylistic conformity easier for Wiki authors.

To properly implement infoboxes requires an extension, I've just used raw templates to achieve much the same effect.

I like it - and the tan colour of the infobox. The only thing I'm wondering if a field specifying the media type should be in the infobox:

i.e.
Media: cartridge, cassette, disk

I see you've included that information in the article text, but it's a little harder to instantly find there in a long article.

How about a little logo: tape or cartridge?

I like little logos, but is it going to be easy for anyone else to implement? I'm just thinking it should be easy for the novice to put together an article that complies with the look of the rest.

Once the logo is uploaded you just copy the template into an article, e.g. adding

would result in the right logo in the infobox.

Yeah, I think I overestimated unicode support in forums and wikis. Thanks for testing.
