VIC-20 Carrying Case

Post by vicassembly »

I just procured one of these vintage Vic-20 cases. I am located in the US and have never seen one before so I jumped at the opportunity.

Are these a UK only item? How popular or readily accessible were they?

I don't know if they are a UK only item but I can tell you I saw only one like that in the past.

The president of the Sorel VIC-20 club, François Lefebvre, had one back in 1982. He's the one who gave me BASIC V4 for the VIC-20 back then. He used his VIC-20 carrying case to bring his computer system to the school where the monthly meetings occurred.

I completely forgot about this detail until I saw the photos you posted.

I too have seen one before online, years ago, but forget where I saw it.
It's rather uncommon here in North America, at least.

They were sold mail order through the VicSoft catalogue. They have "VicSoft" printed in gold so I guess they were made specially.

Could work for the C64 too. Just in case you need to lug around your machine.

Just think about the case for the monitor :P

You can see the shape of the cut-outs in the foam for the VIC-20, the early style of datasette, power supply and modulator. With a C64, you'd more likely want a 1541 drive and this wouldn't fit, I believe.

This carrying case reminds me of the early "portable computers" weighting 10-15 kilos or more :) . Great find!
