SaRuMan-TED 64k RAM for C16 and C116

Post by eslapion »

I am now offering a new type of 64k RAM expansion for the C16 and C116.

This type of expansion installs under the TED and is extremely compact. It uses modern static RAM which uses a trickle amount of power. It uses special thin pins adapted to the peculiar (as in dirt cheap...) 48 pins socket installed by Commodore in the C16 and C116.

NO MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED!, no bending of pins and very small size. Comes with a switch to toggle between 16k/64k - a reset is required when switching between these modes.

The price tag is 20$US or 18 Euros per unit + shipping.

The version with NO SWITCH (64k all the time) is 13.50$US or 12 Euros per unit + shipping.
You can still go back to 16k by connecting the 2 connection points or installing your own switch.

Shipping a small packet (up to 8 units) to the US is 8$. Shipping cost for Australia/NZ and South America is 10$US, Europe is 8 Euros.

Quantity discounts are applicable. Comes with a 90 days money back guarantee and a 3 year guarantee afterwards.

The smallest 64k expansion for the C16 - C116 EVER!

The switch can be attached directly to the SaRuMan-TED board if requested. By default, the switch is attached to 6" (15cm) of wires and can be installed either between the cartridge port and modulator or on the right side, close to the joystick ports.

Those are neat pins, do they have a particular name?

These are listed as Single Inline Leadframe (SIL) contacts. They are exactly the same type of pins used on the long black module present in 1541C drives.

See: http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/ ... 0board.JPG

While the round pins on PLAnkton are 0.018" (0.46mm) diameter and are adequate for most sockets, the pins on SaRuMan-TED are 0.010" (0.25mm) and that's EXACTLY the same as those on an actual DIP 24-48 IC.

For comparison's sake, the round pins on a machined pins sockets are 0.024" (0.6mm) diameter.

Hi,
I'm curious to know why your SARUMAN-TED doesn't work properly, thanks

Actually it does now.

There was an error on PCB v1.2 and everyone who got that version got a refund. PCB V1.4 is in production.

Since the people who got V1.2 were refunded AND there is a fix, the people who do the fix get a free 64k RAM expansion for their C16.

At your service.

Since my little Chinese friends left me stuck with more than 20 PCBs of V1.2, they are free to a good home. Would you be interested in a few ?

This is the schematic for SaRuMan-TED in case anyone has dumb suspicions...
Updated SaRuMan-TED schematic V1.4
Updated SaRuMan-TED schematic V1.4
Renamed CLK_TED to CLK_OUT and CLK_OUT to CE2 to avoid confusion.

There was an error on PCB V1.2 and everyone who got it received a refund. The issue has been identified and resolved.

Current PCB is V1.4 and is fully tested with DIAG264.

All the people who got V1.2 and got a refund can get one V1.4 unit for half the normal price. That's 9 Euros+shipping.

For the old PCBs I don't know what to do with them, so thanks but I'm not interesting in them.

I noticed that into the first pic of this thread a little chip into SARUMAN-TED is an 74ACT32 (4x 2inputs OR gates) but now it's a 74HCT00, so wich version is the published schematic? V1.2, or V1.3 or V1.4?
Thanks

The photos above is from V1.1. The schematics is that of V1.4.

If you ever consider making copies, please know I make them for 13.50 Euros per unit if you buy 10 or more. I make them 12.75 Euros per unit if you buy 25 or more so it's probably cheaper for you to get them directly from me.

Don't worry, you know I don't like copying and however I don't need to copy your schematic for having a working one: I have mine one...

I have a different style on projects development process,
as example I have some perplessity on your V1.4 but you declared that it pass the tests, so I will study deeply the C16 system when I will having a slice of time free....
Community is lucky because you can provide this projects at a low price, especially the projects that have competitors.

So says DIAG264.

When you have a good oscilloscope and a clear knowledge of how dynamic RAM is accessed and refreshed, you can realize some things are important and some things are not. Checking the truth table of logic gates helps too.

Now, if you don't mind, I know for a fact you're not interested in purchasing my products so I will kindly ask you to refrain from posting in the threads related to my products, as I do with yours. That is, unless you know of a specific problem and have an avenue of solution to suggest.

I like it very much when people spot problems with my stuff and can suggest solutions because I learn a lot from it and I always share back what I learn.
