VC20 WGA12033

Post by mrr19121970 »

It's like waiting for a bus. Nothing comes, then suddenly 3. This is 'bus #2' in my collection now. VC20 WGA12033 mainboard 037650.

VIA1 4681
VIA2 4681
VIC1 4181
CHAR 21YC
MPU 4781
BASIC 21XC
KERNAL 3481

Checkout the German characters on the keyboard. Anyone else seen this before?

Working too. Even the keyboard. Will put the test harness on now for checking faster.

My heart sank when the diagnosis cartridge failled with the SERIALBUS=BAD. I didn't connect it on the test harness. Now all running. Perfect...

 Nope! I've seen a Scandinavian (Swedish) keyboard, a Japanese one of course, but nothing German yet. Nice find! Does it produce German graphemes on the screen?

Well I only checked it was working with a few basic tests and then a soak test with the test harness. Jogi thinks this is a 'self made' keyboard with transfer on stickers. This was my thought too, but they didn't scratch off. Tonight I will look in to the CHAR and BASIC roms, they had unusual date codes (CHAR 21YC & BASIC 21XC).

I also contacted the seller and asked about the history of the machine. He has had it about a year, and someone dumped their boxes of "rubbish" in his car trailer when he was parked somewhere. He took it home and left it in his shed and found it again last week.

Seems to have normal roms. I also suspect a dodgy VIA1 too. CTRL+2 and RIGHTSHIFT+CLRHOME do nothing. Pressing restore a few times can corrupt the screen. Not sure if the F-keys are working either.

Never seen this before.

If this is indeed a "self made" keyboard, then it is mighty well done.
Be normal.

I found a great matrix here

Seems PA6 & PA7 on VIA1? are bad based on my own oberservations.
