Can you explain the process for a specific game to start up with controls being the 4, 8, 6, and 2 keys in the number pad, instead of the joystick? How do you change this on a per game level in the Gamebase? Thanks!

Try to configure joystick to numpad in Vice and save the settings on exit which as default it doesn't iirc.

ESC is mapped to Run/Stop in Vice btw.

You can't configure a specific control setup for one game using Gamebase, it would have been to universal for all games as Ian notes. So if you want the joystick to map to 2/4/6/8 for all games, you can certainly do that.

OK Thanks very much for the feedback, both of you. I wasn't 100% sure if you could do a game-specific control setup on Gamebase. I'm actually surprised that you can't.

That is odd. How might GameBase for C64 work if it does not allow for P1/P2 joystick mapping, with all of the fuss with swapping ports and the such? xvic has command-line options to specify "joydev1", even "config" for an alternate configuration file with embedded joystick settings.
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

I said "using Gamebase" heh. It would need to be written in the GEMUS script for starters by myself (I'd have to check if it's already there though mind you), and you the user would have to configure the separate control mechanism as the separate file yourself. It's not something that you can just tell Gamebase to do as part of the GUI.

But if it's not there in GEMUS, you'd have to add that for starters, and configure a flag in the game setup within F2 window to access the controls file as part of that. That's about the best I can suggest.

Glad you said something, rhurst. I'm certainly not afraid of a little custom script work to solve a problem.

That's what this whole hobby is about, getting your feet wet! Thanks for the tips, Mayhem.

Anyone have any success using the dinkmod version of VICE with Gamebase 20 version 3? This great mod allows you to use a wireless Gamepad, amongst other great tweaks.

Nevermind, got it sorted! :D

Read the details here

The 100% working version of VICE with the gamepad mod (AKA dink mod) is 2.4.8 and can be downloaded here:

I just want to say, having the Vic20 Gamebase working with a modern wireless game controller is bloody fantastic and highly recommended! (I'm using a wireless Xbox 360 controller.)

Do you need an adapter for the Xbox Controller? Would it work with PS3 controller or an XBox One controller?

I have a wireless adapter for the xbox 360 controller like the one at the link below. It's great, because it allows up to 4 controllers on the same system, which is good for the other emulators I have that have games with up to 4 players.

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wi ... B000HZFCT2

I don't have a PS3 controller or an Xbox One controller, but if these are working on you computer, then they may work as well, but this would need to be tested first. I have read that with software you can make the PS3 controller emulate the xbox controller, so it should be possible. Edit: Looks like the PS3 controller does work with this modded version of VICE. See details here: http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic. ... ht=gamepad

I should have also specified that this dink mod allows you to use the D-pad on these controllers, which is a big deal for playability and was not possible in VICE until now. Below is a fuller description of what the dink mod of VICE can do, from the author:
Whats the purpose of this?
...2 Things...
1 - It enables the use of a D-Pad on a gamepad which the D-Pad
wont work in Vice (without Joy2Key or some other clever hack).
2 - It gives you the ability to program the extra buttons on your gamepad.
3 - Temporarily Disables your screensaver while Vice is running (if you have one/new in v.401)
...If you can imagine how frustrating it is to be playing a game and the
screensaver kicks in...

Here are the programmable button options:

Pause - this is self explanitory..
Press "space" - games like Gryzor, Skyshark..etc. that use
"space" as a second fire button can be played 100%
via joystick/gamepad!! Or get past an intro screen.
Warpmode - toggle Warpmode on/off to get past those annoying
disk loads, intros or slow parts.
Swap Ports - This will swap Joy Port1 -> port2 / Port2 -> port1
Enable D-Pad - some gamepads have a D-Pad which don't work in
Vice. Now you can make this work without stupid
hacks (joy2key..etc.)
QuickSaveState - Save a snapshot of a game or something (do this before you think
you're gonna die Wink
QuickLoadState - Re-load the snapshot of the game (do this after you die Wink
QuickSaveStateUndo - So, you saved the state after you died? (woops!) Use This to go back to the previous one.

Heya mate... is the link on page 6 not working properly then? http://gamebase20.commodorecomputers.dk ... 20_v03.zip

You can try this one as well: http://robert.hurst-ri.us/downloads/

If not, I'll see about trying to upload the ZIP to a cloud storage for download instead...

I hate for my first post to be a request, especially on a 4-year-old thread... but all the download links for GB20 v3 are dead. Would anyone be so kind as to provide a working link? (Or is there a new GB20 version on the way? I read something somewhere about a couple guys joining forces or something on a new one?)

Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work!
