VIC-NIC News

Post by allenhuffman »

Greetings. I once had a program published/printed in a small newsletter magazine called the VIC-NIC NEWS. I can't find any reference to it on the internet other than a scan of another magazine that once reprinted a "PHONE HOME!" game listing.

Does anyone know where I could find scans?

Specifically, I am looking for a game program listing I submitted back around 1981 or 1982. I believe it was called "Eggs" and it was a "catch the falling objects" game. It was my first published program/article when I was about 12.

I was able to track down some information on this newsletter. I also found the names of the couple that ran the FOX 20 tape magazine, and a notice in a 1984 newsletter of them shutting down due to damage from Hurricane Alicia that swept through Houston that year. (I sure remember that one; we were without power for a week.)

I have since located a bit more information on VIC-NIC, including an ad for a program they sold. That got me to the name of someone who wrote an article, and I found a (sadly) decided gentleman that seems to have been him. He was in the same location, was into HAM radio and such, and would have been a similar age.

Still haven't found any scanned copies anywhere, though.

Kudos for the perseverance. A 10 year old thread in which only you have posted (until now).

Good luck with your search and if you ever find PDFs for your newsletter be sure to share them with us.

Every few years i revisit this and find a bit more information. Unfortunately, beyond all the references I’m finding in magazines that are now scanned online (which were nowhere to be found when I started this quest), I seem to have been the only one on the Internet who has eveR mentioned this newsletter :)

I have more screen shots I’ll be posting of the software as they ran, too, when I get time.

At least it will be here if anyone else ever looks, and on my site :)

Phone Home is on this page. A program originally printed in VIC-NIC News, also by the same person who did their Ask Dennis column and at least one other program (Mojave Desert Adventure):

Eventually, maybe my program will show up somewhere ;)

I think this is your page with your other games. I thought it might be nice to share those here too.

Persistence has paid off! Someone found my quest. They had seven issues, and found my program in #6. I am hoping they will consider scanning all their copies so we can get them archived.

Ah, the doodles of a junior high kid!
