I don't see the point in buying a game that is worth double (even triple) the car I drive everyday.
I guess that some people "have to get them all".

I guess that at some point collectibles stop being just collectibles, and are bought as an investment (see also: stamps, coins). I wouldn't be surprised if there was some private investor, a bank, or an insurance company behind those auctions.

The top flap of Sierra boxes are glued down, there was no cellophane afaik. Admittedly hard to tell if RESEALED unless you open her up again and have a careful check of the flap to see any previous damage.orion70 wrote:(New in Factory Sealed Box? I don't see any cellophane)
He does have a couple of tapes not in GB20, so I may bid on those...

It's done. It went at a very low price - too bad I missed it.
Re: [Ebay] Just another Mt. Drash :)
Why is it that expensive? I could have remolded my house with all that!

It is considered the Holy Grail of VIC games.
Re: [Ebay] Just another Mt. Drash :)
Thanks, I had no clue why it was that expensive but now I see. Still a great piece of history to see though.

Re: [Ebay] Just another Mt. Drash :)
In my opinion, when a "collectable" item reaches prices that are many orders of magnitude higher than the material value of the good, it is almost granted that it will be falsified. A perfect clone of this game (which was made with crappy materials to begin with) could be made with a fraction of the $9000 it sold for.
Moreover, feel free to accuse me to "judge" other people (I explicitly authorise you), but in my opinion spending $9000 for a compact cassette is an offense to humanity. I also purchase silly items at silly prices occasionally, but there's a limit to everything in my humble opinion. Whoever feels that thrashing $9000 for a compact cassette is all right should urgently talk to a psychiatrist, and possibly also to a priest. I understand that there's people who earns $9000 in a pair of minute of "work" (quotes are strictly necessary here) and would spend them just as airily, but again in my humble opinion exactly this is THE problem of the so-called western society.

There's Ultima collectors, and then there's sealed game collectors. They are on another world really.
You can't 100% fabricate the game afaik because there's no public TAP. The only way it could be done is if someone already with the game dumps a copy to be rewritten. This auction demonstrates WHY there isn't one at the moment!

Re: [Ebay] Just another Mt. Drash :)
It is sealed. Sealed game collectors don't open their sealed games. Thus, nobody even know what's inside. There is actually no need for an "inside" at all. But possibly the box has been filled with dried up poo, just to give it proper weight. Oh no wait: just in case the $9000 sealed games collector would submit the box to a X-rays analysis, it has been filled with a Nino D'Angelo's compact cassette.
