Every VIC 20 expandable memory areas can be covered (also the I/Os areas), and BLK 5 can also be write protected!

1.) 8K= BLK1: $2000-$3FFF (8192-16383)

The 2K IOs area is important because is unusual,
the perfect place for a speedloader like "RABBIT" for tape: Rabbit-sys38912.prg or for software-kernal simil-jiffydos: tokra_2K_SJload_$98.prg

the worst case after years could be the eventual oxidation of cart fingers,
but (oxide) Tin is soft respect to the contact metal into VIC20 connector, the oxide should be scratched by the connector contact during the insertion.

Eventually the very worst case could be a not-contact, but this won't damage the VIC20 and the solution is easy: use a pencil rubber on pcb finghers to eliminate oxide and then you will have years of contacts working!

never heard before that cartridges like as HASL-Behr-Bonz damage the VIC20 connector, but your words induce me to think that your big production had exposed you to the protests of people that had own VIC20 damaged by your cartridge, so I ask you, for direct experience:
how many people that get your HASL-Behr-Bonz (percentage) had the VIC20 damaged by it?

Somebody CLONED the Behr-Bonz around 2011 and these clones are easy to distinguish because they do not have the hole for the case screw in the center and they have red PCBs.

Please do NOT attribute to me what somebody else did.

I can't know because, except for the 2 prototypes which were expressly provide as such, I NEVER sold any VIC-20 cartridges which do not have gold plating.

Thomas Lovskog was charged with the production of all Behr-Bonz boards since may 2015 and he delivered to me excellent quality boards with the same gold plating grade you can find on expensive Vector 3677 and 3677-2 prototyping boards. They sell for about 40$US on Digikey.

Between 2006 and 2008 I also sold the Ultimate Expander cartridges and they too all had gold plating on the edge connector.

Arrived today at lunchtime.

Tried it out and all configurations work as expected.
Even had a quick game of DOOM just to make sure all 35k are accessible.

Not worried about whether it's HASL or ENIG - the thing will just stay plugged in the back.
I now have 1 Vic with full ram configs with SD2IEC for programming and playing Denial member's games, and 1 vic with a behr-bonz for playing all those great cart games.

Just have to work out how to get sjload$98 to work in the I/O area now to be fully geared up. Anyone?

OK. Sussed it out.

1. Enable I/O (switch 7 down)
2. Load "sjload$98",8,1
3. Press reset - If you try to load anything without doing this, you will get 'out of memory' error.
4. SYS 38912

Anything you load from SD2IEC will now be accelerated. I loaded DOOM and the splash screen came up immediately. After that disappeared, I was ready to play the game in about 5 seconds!!!

When you are ready to do something else, just repeat steps 3 and 4 and all disk activity is turbo'ed.
This really is a great little card.

I'm happy for your enthusiasm in discovering the potentiality of your "new" VIC20 system...
If I remember well the RAM into i/o areas is (now) out of VICE possibilityes.... the real world win!

Try the attached file, it should be the SJLoad $98 modified to be started by "SYS40000", an more mnemonic address....

NOTE: this file is wrong, see two post after...

Your binary does not work with SYS4000 (it still loads to $9800). However, I compiled a version to $9c40 a while back to be found here:

This is most likely the same reduced version that is also on the MegaCart. When compiling SJLOAD you can turn off features like support for SAVE or printing the load-address. This makes it small enought to fit it from $9c40-$9fff.

Also, you do not need to reset after loading, a simple "NEW" will do.

VICE supports the IO2 and IO3-RAM areas for some time now. However you need go to "Settings-Cartridge/IO-setting-Enable I/O-2 RAM" (or I/O-3 RAM).
