WTB: Lode Runner

Post by daveman »

Hi,

if anyone's got an extra Lode Runner cart around I'd be willing to buy or trade for it.

Other than that, if anyone has any carts available, post a list! :)

thanks,
Dave

Yeah, everyone should just post trade list. I have been looking for that cart as well, but playing roms via serial cable has spoiled me.

I think I have the lode runner cart image on disk. I just used star commander and the XE cable to copy it to my 1541. I can just play it from there.

If you EVER get the opportunity to get the VicMon, do so.

I have not yet really used mine, but I appreciate how hard it is to get a hold of... on ebay they may go for $30 - $40 when they are available, but it very rare to see one for sale!

Don't forget, buy it even if it appears broken. It is like a scott adams cart, you need to type SYS commands to access it.

I don't think I have a super expander. I always assumed that like the Programmers Aid cart, that the superexpander was useless. It doesn't translate to any other computer unless they have the same cart!

The super expander is great fun.

You can write pretty small programs, and get some wicked graphics demos on the vic.

If you ever get a super expander, I strongly recommend the "VIC Graphics" book by NIck Hampshire.

If anyone has the cartridge, but not the book, I would gladly scan any part of the book for someone.

I use the Prog aid cartridge often as well. It is quite a good tool. It's really good for merging programs, renumbering, etc..

My favourite part is assigning commands to the function keys.

e.g. I can hit F1, and have "load"$",8" with a return!

I have the VIC Graphics book without the SuperExpander cart!! :x

I've always wanted to test it out... can any the techniques from the cart be transfered to programming for systems without the cart? Did that question make sense? I mean, can I develop with that cart and use the code on systems without the cart? :?

Anders may be more help on this matter than me, but my guess is that most of what is in that Graphics book, cannot be done without the super expander.

Maybe some interesting ML routines or something could do some of the stuff, but that's way out of my league.

I do see the super expanders often enough on ebay, so good luck!

No, the software you develop for the Super Expander et.al. requires the tool to run. The Programmers' Aid is slightly different, as the commands it adds mainly are for helping development rather than being useful within the program itself.

There were a lot of more or less free graphic tools out there which you could include with your own program. Most didn't have a Basic extention but only a set of POKEs and SYSes. I have typed in a such program myself from a Swedish magazine. It adds graphics routines to the unexpanded machine and leaves about one kilobyte left after reserving space for the graphics and the routines themselves. Of course it also works with 3K and would be possible to rewrite for larger expansions.

Regarding getting ROM images.. well, first you have to find an archive hosting those files. Then you would need to transfer the files by some means to your VIC or a floppy. You also need an 8K or more RAM expansion unit which can be switched to map into the cartridge space. If it has a write protect switch to simulate ROM it is even better.
Now, you can load the image off floppy or other solution with ,8,1 and SYS or soft reset the machine to start the image.
