So this would mean that you could take out the standard power supply of any PC and plug the 12V line to the vic-20, and that would be better than the original PSU?

A PC Power Supply has tricky power balance rules which varies from model to model (e.g. older ones requiring a stable load on +5V) so I would not use it.

The 6VCC voltage requested by the Datassette motor is sourced by the above mentioned 12,4VDC. In case that 12VDC signal is already regulated (which is the case of the Power Supply object of the thread) I think that this 6VCC voltage is going to be more precise and put less strain on the Datassette motor.

@Boray: The Datassette motor is able to work with a range of 5/6VDC and requests around 250~300mA.

Well, its not really DC since its unregulated. I haven't probed the cassette port voltage with an oscilloscope, but I guess you are right about the transistors doing a job to keep the output around 6V.

A modern substitute for the 902502-02 is available as well (only 2 units ATM).

In case you are interested, just PM me with a picture of your VIC-20 in order to be sure about the exact replacement.

In case of doubt, drop me a PM with a photo of your machine (power connector visible) and I will give to you the correct Power Supply. ;)

The 1001038-03~1001038-04 Power Supply Replacement object of the thread is Sold-Out as I write. Will open a new thread for the 902502-02 Replacement PS.
