Sorcery
I HIGHLY recommend it. :!:

Just to refresh your memory about this game: it's an entertaining CRPG, written in 1984 by Brendan Jones (go here), who also made a V1.1. after correcting several issues. A great pdf manual is also available.

I wrote a map of dungeon B, and upon my request Brendan himself showed up in this thread.

And last, a single-file crunched version of V1.0 was made by carlsson (see this thread). Don't know if it's possible to crunch the vsf (VICE snapshot), but probably you'd prefer the V1.1, as it's improved, bug-free and extensively play-tested (er... by me).

All in all, you can't miss this in the cart.

There's NO prg file for V1.1- only a vsf VICE snapshot image.
I wonder if Carlsson can crunch it for us somehow (thanks in advance) :P

Otherwise, use the version 1.0. It works flawlessly and it's incredibly FUN :!: even with random dungeons (you can always save characters on disk).

Sure, I can have a look tonight. The drawback of working with a snapshot is that the memory contents may not be the initial state.

Thanks Carlsson, hope you will succeed. V1.1 is better because mazes and maze entrances do not change if you press the same letter at the beginning (to be precise, the don't change in V1.0, but every new game you find them randomly rotated and the four doors are relocated, so orienting yourself is not easy).

Almost one year ago, I asked Brendan for some changes and improvements in the eventual V2.0:
1) Make possible to save characters on disk. One per disk side, if you don't want to change the code (only device # in lines 835 and 852); but better with a file name requester, if this doesn't affect too much the total size.

2) About rounding on hitpoints etc. Couldn't it be possible to make your hit affect the monster's point *exactly* as stated in the text description (e.g. "you hit for 3 points" means that 3 points, and not more or less, are subtracted from the monster's). If magic modifiers play a role in striking, please state it in the manual - or don't say in the description "you're hitting for X points".

3) About descriptions. To save bytes, many descriptions could be shortened. E.g.: "nothing happens" instead of "a harmless puff of smoke etc...". Minor glitch: why you use "they" for the monster you're fighting (like in "they don't chase you") instead of the singular "it"? The same if a mage casts a spell (why "*they* fail"?).

4) Fix, if possible, what's written in the original errata.txt: the bug with one of the potions, #2 - when the potion wears off instead of restoring your agility to the original value it leaves it unchanged and changes your amount of gold to 20-40 pieces. BTW: how about giving a (short) name to potions?
(Note that point 1 was already accomplished).

Brendan's last post is dated Nov 01, 2006 :(
I wonder if he's still there lurking in our forum.
I will try and write him. It would be just great to have a V2.0 before the release of Mega-Cart.

Bah. I should learn not to work 13 hour shifts. It eats up my spare time. Better luck tomorrow.

I visited this site many months ago, saved the content, but I never got around to testing or playing the games.

They should be added to Gamebase 2 (if not there already).
