Where to post new project code

I've finished up a project I've been working on and am curious where's the best place to post it? I can host it on GitHub as a Release, but they don't give you any download stats and I like knowing how many people use stuff. I could post it at CSDb, but I'm not sure they'd appreciate that. We need a VIC-20 specific release site like CSDb. This would be a great place to do that, and I'd be willing to help build it.

Well, as most here experience at some point, external links goes dead, either by design or company/server/person closedown.

My personal favourite is personal web sites and get them snapshot by the internet archive. Then they are there "forever"...

Github seems to be ok, but I dont know how long old old code lives there.

Github ain't going nowhere. It's got major backing from companies like Microsoft who have a vested interest in it. Microsoft is so in bed with GitHub that they have gone read-only on CodePlex and are telling everyone to move their projects to GitHub.

I have bigger problems earning money. I would trust a personal website even less.
