synths by r'zo

Post by R'zo »

I plan on writing a good hand full of various synth programs for the Vic. Some for use with the vic midi cart, some for use with the c=64 keyboard overlay as well as others. I will be posting them all here for discussion so I don't overrun the forum with post on my synths.

MICRO VICIOUS
Features
-works with c=64 keyboard overlay
-gives 2 octave monophonic playable control over the vics 4 voices
-edit individual controls for the tone, octave and tune of all 4 voices
-works without memory expansion
-bypasses the keyboard buffer and goes strait to peek(197) for faster key reaction
-(edit)-works with pal and ntsc

This program will be should be easy for me to translate for use with midi cart. All it should require for both in and out is changing a few numbers and addresses.

Oh, very well. I won't be back home until Wednesday, and then I can search for the overlay.

I found a bug playing around with this on my vic last night. F#2 has no reaction. I had only tested this in emulation and the key layout gets a little funny. It was an easy miss but will also be an easy fix. I should be able to have it fixed and my links updated within a couple of days. Aside from that, she plays beautifully on hardware. The key reaction is even better than I expected. No noticeable latency, smooth reaction and that wonderful raw vic sound.

It didn't take as long as I thought. Links have been updated.

I tried this, but could not figure out how to exit edit mode once I was in it. I did try pressing F7 again.

Press 9 (c#2) to exit edit mode.

I originally had f7 to exit edit mode. I had a simple problem where f7 would enter edit mode and then exit right back out of it. I could have worked around it but I wanted to keep this version of the program as short and simple as poosible so I just used a different key for the exit.

I looked at the memory usage of Micro Vicious the other day and discovered that it only uses 2k memory to run. This leaves me a good amount of space to buff the program up a little more and still fit into the unexpanded vic.

goals for Micro Vicious 2.0
-center display screen
-set 1 key to toggle edit and play mode
-load/save features
-an added graphic in the display to signify play or edit mode

I am more than open at this points to suggestions.

MICRO VICIOUS 2.0
I have finished version 2 and accomplished all the added features that I projected in the last post. It is a little more user friendly. I have now tested it on hardware with the keyboard overlay and it works beautifully.

This .zip folder-micro vicious 2.0.zip contains the micro vicious 2.0.d64 disk image, a printable instruction manual and a type-in version with type-in instructions.
