I'm probably going to be asking a lot of questions about VICE in the near future, so I thought I'd start a topic.

Tonight's question:
How do I insert text? The [shift][del] combination doesn't seem to work.

Delete is default mapped to Backspace I believe, so Shift Backspace should do Insert.
