You need an actual VIC.

Commodore/Atari Joystick on PC?

Post by Startropic1 »

Atari & Commodore/Vic-20 joysticks use standard serial connectors, are there any windows drivers for using these on PC?

:-)

No the connectors look the same and there's where the similarities end.

You can hook two connectors up to the parallel port though and use the program PPJoy for example. That's probably the cheapest way.

There are also finished USB solutions like this one:

It isn't a serial connector, actually. It's discrete I/O that just happens to (unfortunately) also be a DB-9.

You can get them to work on Windows with something like this:

I don't know if these Atari joysticks are still for sale, but they are very, very cool to hook-up to a PC. 8)

Not only that, but the DB9 serial ports aren't even standard.

The actual standard for RS-232 is a DB-25 Male Connector on the Cable and a DB-25 female on the Computer. Of course PC's reversed this, so we end up using gender changers when connecting our classic computers to PC's via null modem cables.

I'm using this:

http://www.retro-donald.de/pages/usb-jo ... dapter.php

Can also be bought ready built for 16 EUR and a beautfiul metal case is available for 9.90 EUR

This way you can use any old Atari-compatible joystick on the PC.

Or you can just buy a brand new Competiton Pro Joystick with USB connector:
