Replacement for voltage regulators in 2-prong VIC

Post by ral-clan »

On the Vintage Computer Forum, someone is experimenting with replacing the 2-prong VIC volage regulator with something cooler and more modern:

Gyro Gearloose made an amazing little switching regulator which replaces TO-3 format LM323/7805/7812 regulators.

It can be used in both the 2-prong VIC-20 or 1540/1541 disk drives.

Oh yes, I happen to have built three more recently. I never meant to mass-produce these. They work at 5 and 12 volts.

That's a really nice gadget! I suspect there are quite a few people who need those, even if they don't realize it. Well done!
