Need fuse for PET computer.

Post by ral-clan »

Does anyone know where I can buy a fuse for a Commodore PET computer?

I need a 1.6A 125V slow-blow glass fuse of approximate size 6mm x 31mm.

I cannot find a source for this. The closes I've found is:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5x-MDL-1-6A-or-M ... xyOlhSyEzr

But I am a little confused about the "OR" part in the title and the fact says it is both 1.6A and 10A in the title.

Thanks.

These fuses are correct for you.

MDL-1-6/10 is just a model number.

Aren't you in the Toronto area ? Active Electronics should have these at your doorstep instead of ordering them from the end of the world.

These fuse are totally standard.

Hi Eslapion,

I'm actually about 1.25 hours away from Ottawa (Cornwall, actually) and we don't have any local electronic parts stores (and I don't want to drive to Ottawa just for a $3 part). So I guess I'll order them from eBay.

Just curious though....why do these fuses say 125V/250V on them?

Fuses are designed to have their core liquefy and stop the passage of energy when a certain amount of current flows through them but their physical size acts as a barrier to electrical arcing up to a certain voltage.

These fuses will protect from both an excessive amount of current as well as energy flowing through arcing on devices designed for both 125V as well as 250V.

You can use them on North American electrical apparatus designed for normal electrical outlets (115-125V) as well as higher domestic voltages such as used by a laundry drier or oven. It is also compatible with European normal electrical outlets (220-250V).

It is unsafe to use with industrial voltages such as 347/480/600 volts or anything above.

This is weird. I ordered them on eBay but my order got cancelled and the money refunded.
Then I found them on Amazon.ca, but the shipping is almost $30!!!!

https://www.amazon.ca/FUSE-MINIATURE-EQ ... +1.6a+30mm

I searched all over Digikey but cannot find them either (I need 6mm x 30mm size to fit the PET).

Hard to believe they are common (or cheap) when I'm having such a hard time ordering them...

Just PM me!

I'll grab a bunch of them at Addison or some other electrical parts store and I'll mail them to you.

I'm surprised they don't have that at The Source.
