Would it be cheating to make a GUI connected via some serial interface to a desktop PC running e.g. Crafty? :-)

I wonder how much RAM these chess programs use, and whether any of them can utilize more memory than intended. I.e. if Sargon II can take advantage of an 8K expansion and play even better, or at least the tape based games requiring 8K but would also run with 24K. I suppose the answer is "no".

if you want a good little windows based chess program for an opponent, try looking for 'waxman' over the net.

it is small, free, and can even run on my 386sx-20 under win 3.1, with no worries.

I think I have Gnuchess 3 or 4 for Amiga somewhere. Personally, I prefer othello over chess.

This is intresting..

I wonder how good Sargon II Chess game really is.. :D
I have managed to beat sargon II on its easiest level - but I am not the greatest player either - Just use some anti-computer strategy and keep on the lookout for an opening (while not making any mistakes of course).
