Misfit is working on another game, but very unlikely to be that one. According to Twitter, he is working on something currently with a working title of "RodMän". If you want to influence it, he is asking for name suggestions for one of the characters:

Apparently RodMän is a mix between BomberMan + Pacman + Boulder Dash.

Cheese and Onion is so good. I can't wait for RodMän. I'm a big RockMan fan (see my avatar image), so expecting big things for RodMän.

Sounds like a very potent and attractive mix indeed! BTW I remember an early VIC-game called Moria Mine that, sort of, was a mix of Bomberman and Boulderdash, but predated them both. It was very slow and probably made in Basic. I can't find it anywhere and back in the days it mostly gave me a "load error" and I was only able to play it a few times. Does anyone remember it?

(I haven't been able to play Cheese and Onion yet, but from what I have heard, it is even better than expected and I am 100% sure I will love it.)

Yes, finished Speed Runner mode: 1946 p. Far from an optimized run though. But very satisfying to get hold of all the onions :) Not that hard when you have figured out the right order. But figuring out the optimal order is part of the game of course!

The second world in Adventure mode, however, still eludes me. Made some good progress though and find it the most fun of the three modes. Stimulating and relaxing at the same time in a way modern games seldom are. Yet it is much more modern in its design than standard Vic games, but retains that sparse and atmospheric mood (almost contemplative) that characterized games like Jet Set Willy. But slicker and much less maddeningly frustrating due to unlimited lives (you can still get badly stuck though, but that's part of figuring out the right order).

A very pleasant Christmas game :D

Hey Misfit, your new game and the request for name suggestions got my imagination working. RodMän may be a reference to the VIC & C16 Boulderdash clone Rockman, but the ä-dots, I guess, is a nod to the other meaning of “rock”? With that in mind I thought of…

Edgy Eddie

He strolls around the edge of the maze. He is harmless as long as you stay out of his way… However, if you happen to cross his way (perhaps unavoidably while being chased by another villain), he will transform to Fast Eddie and will hunt you down with even less mercy than Blinky of Pac-Man. Fast Eddie may be of Sirius Software fame or of Motörhead fame, but please do not confuse him with Frantic Freddie of C64 and Queen fame.

The twins T ‘n’ T.

Two T-shaped characters that run around randomly. When they meet, they explode in Bomberman style and suitably accompanied by the famous TNT-riff.

Dee Dee T.

A completely brainless guy, who leaves a toxic trail that is sure to kill, not only our hero Bug-eyed Buck, but also all those pesky bugs that otherwise accumulate and cause unexpected (and for the player often lethal) behavior of the game itself.
He is the brother of Dee Dee R., who penned such immortal lines like: “DDT did a job on me, now I am a real sickie” in an ode to his brother.

Okay, I am admittedly just goofing around for my own pleasure and you obviously already have enemy behavior down, but feel free to use these

Best of luck with the game. Sounds like it could be really fun!

But seriously, Vicious Vic fits well with the already decided names: Naughty Nic, Dirty Tim, and Desperate Dave, and could be the equivalent of Sue in Ms. Pac-Man.

But she is perhaps best left for a Vic version of Chip’s Challenge (great puzzle maze game for Lynx and, among others, C64). As Vic Vicious she is the elder sister of Vic II Vicious and Sid Vicious (see, I managed another röck-nöd).

OK, that’s enough of off-topic. I will return to this thread when I finally get my hand on a real VIC to play my Cheese & Onion cart on. I have had a lot of other games to play this Christmas, for example: C64 Sam’s Journey and a bunch of super-classic platformers on SNES Classic. However, I am always more comfortable playing on VIC, so C&O will compare very favorably :)

I find the idea of a "physical release only" totally off-putting. :( Would only rip out the chip for an image and probably scrap the thing in the process.

EDIT: And it's not even gold plated! *dug* *snigger* :P

Have to agree. Not providing an image to people that have bought the cart is a bit "unfriendly" IMHO.

I have bought the physical cart but not had chance to play it so far as my real Vic's desk space has been commandeered for repairing a 1980s ghetto blaster the last 2 months...

Presume it is a config that VICE supports...? I guess digital image for now probably would hurt sales, because that's part the reason for the price.

I'd pay a tenner for a download, because i know it never pays the weed it takes to lock oneself away to bring out a block buster. ;)

all it takes for VICE to support it is a link to the cartridge image... :)

Well I figured that in a round about way, if VICE didn't support it, it soon would heh...

Nothing to do with VICE. You can just rip the image from the cart by using an XPander for example by saving BLK1,2,3 and 5 and then start with SYS64802. No special magic about it. Made a version for myself this way that I just crunched with exomizer and can load and run from SD.

I cannot share this version for obvious reasons, so it's really up to Misfit himself if he decides to make a digital release of this game at some point.

Mine arrived in the mail today!
Thanks Misfit for the time/effort producing a real cart.
For me, writing the games is the rewarding part, producing/shipping the game is no fun and a lot of work.
But as a collector, I much prefer a real cart.

Thanks again for this release, looking forward to your next one.

I got my cart in the mail yesterday (awesome game BTW!) and the contacts ARE gold plated. So they obviously fixed that issue before shipping the game.
