VIC Game Club No. 7 – Game Theories

Jeff Daniels has given us some great games over the years. That they are all created in BASIC makes these even more impressive.
The Game Theory series of mini-games are simple, fun, and humorous. They also provide an interesting philosophical look at video gaming, then and now.

I decided to start with the first. It seems simple enough, but the fast pacing is a real killer. My best so far in Game Theory (1): 22

What's the difference between them?

I know the latest version has updated graphics and a more randomized level selection.
Edit- given a quick play on each.
3K seems the same as the first but it seems to run a little quicker.
2 has different levels than 1 and 3k.
4 has levels from 1 and to with updated graphics and randomized levels.
With a quik play on each one I have a current and consistant high score of 4 on all 4. I believe my all time high score on these is 18 on version 4.

I have only played Game Theory 4 and I liked it a lot so it is a pleasure to try the other ones. First on my list was of course the original Game Theory. Quite hard - harder than I remembered GT4. But after a while I managed to beat all the events/mini games.

Perhaps I can improve my score (13) a bit but akator's 22 seems almost out of reach. Let's see... but I will at least play GT2 before I try to beat it. Soccer goal was the hardest one as the ball moves so fast. Ghost trap felt very hard - but still I almost never missed.

I really like the intermissions. It's a nice touch. I usually don't get that far, though.

Well ... LOL, my best this far on Game Theory 1 is 4 p! I have just had a quick play though. I'll definitely be back for more and try the three other ones. Very entertaining little challenges

My scores on Game Theory 2:
4, 1, 1, 4, 5, 5, 7, 9, 11, 4, 24

Guess I had a lot of luck with the randomized levels. I finally missed in the target shoot (which I found pretty hard already the first time at lower speed).
A little bit easier than GT1? Or perhaps I was better prepared this time? GT3 next!

hey! THanks for playing! The difference is that 4 (the version on the front page of Denial) was a revisit to the old program. I decided to get rid of user graphics all together and got with the built in set.

So far Game Theory 3K is my favorite. It has both "puzzles" from the 2 previous games and new ones as well.
My high so far is 29.

I think 26 is the best I'll get on Game Theory 4. It took me quite a while to get this high.

I've enjoyed all of the different versions, but 3k is definitely my favorite. I like the custom graphics in the first 3 versions. I appreciate a kind of "purist" element to 4 using the default character set, but the custom graphics in the first 3 add a lot for me. I also like that the intermissions in the first 3 can be as long or short as the player wants.

I am improving all the time!
GT3

GT4

While playing my last game I told myself many times that the "button mashing" events are too easy and should have been made faster and then what happens? Yes, as I am leaning backwards relaxed in my chair, the 44th event, the racing game, suddenly becomes faster - a lot faster... I would have made it if I was better prepared though
For me it's a choice between GT3 & 4. GT3 has the most events and I like the well defined custom graphics. GT4 has bigger graphics, which make the char movement feel super smooth at 50 fps. I also like that the order of events and the color schemes are randomized.

Finally managed more than the default high score on GT4: 12!
But I still haven't cleared "whirl" even once, hence I'm not sure I really understand what I'm supposed to do there
I'm also not sure if I'm merely being lucky when I clear "avoid".
So, overall I guess I find the levels of GT4 to be the most puzzling one, but at the same time perhaps the most creative ones
(love the tempo event) The PET graphics work very well - extremely well in same cases - but I still prefer the custom graphics, which are very cute and distinctive.
