I plod along with creating monster portraits. I find myself getting better and better at making these. I find the monster dwarf portrait better than the one I used for the player character dwarf portrait.

16 down, 123 to go.

There's also going to be 40 portraits for the dungeons and another 100 for the cities to do as well!

For Realms IV, I used PGM IMPORT MONO to produce about 100 black and white hi-res monster graphics.

Since the graphics I did for Realms IV have disappeared from it's "Making of" thread, I thought I'd repost it here for posterity.

Thank you. Although I only started doing the real work on this game back in February, I had conceived of the overall concept of "If I were to make Realms of Quest V, how would it be like?" starting in early 2014. Dedicating a relatively large portion of the screen to digitized multicolor graphics was going to be a big part.

Designing these graphics has been a lot of fun, but sometimes can be challenging. Some images I find on the web that I think look great don't really translate well into VIC-20 format when you digitize them. And I even want to remake some of the images that I did early on when I go over them. But I could be an extreme perfectionist and spend a few hours for every image but that would just push back the completion of the game by a very long time. Ultimately, why let "perfect" be the enemy of the perfectly adequate? Axl Rose procrastinated for well over a decade working on Chinese Democracy and by the time that it finally came out, the public at large had largely lost interest. So ultimately I do want to work just long enough on each image until I have something that I consider to be pretty good.

I did 4 images today, and they were quite difficult to do. I spent about 90 minutes working on the Blink Dog and finally by the fifth attempt I had something that gave me a semblance of being acceptable.
