What you're doing there is absolutely super-*pheep*-amazing. Wish I wasn't that lazy. Probably the first game of its kind I'll buy and play. Have a good one!

Thank you. I think in this age of SD cards (well, I do intend to put it out on floppy--4 disk sides, but an SD card reader is recommended to avoid disk swapping) and RAM expansion becoming more common, interesting things could really come out for the VIC-20 in the future as long as there are people willing to do it (as you, I and others have done).

It does take a bit of diligence to put in 30-90 minutes a day to work on this game. I honestly do not have the spare time to put in 4+ hours consistently each day as I did when I worked on Realms III and IV. If I did, I might be very close to being finished by now. In fact, the game is pretty much in an alpha playable state as it is-- the core engine is more or less done, the combat module is 95% done and you can pretty much create a party and travel around the map fighting monsters in random encounters. So I'd say about 1/3 of the content is done (music, graphics and text) while about 70% of the whole game engine is done (all that's left are the dungeon and city modules).

Eventually, I will get it done -- a few pieces at a time.

I did a bunch of touch-ups (which I won't post here), but I completely re-made the image for Axe Beak for which I much prefer it to the original:

The first iteration of reviewing the monsters for random encounters is finished! Here were the final new versions of images/touch-ups that I did:

I started to program the City Module. In the game, there will be 19 cities that you can explore.

The following screenshots denote the player entering the famous metropolis known as "Bighy Woods"

(the player has traveled to the pub to find out the latest gossip. Unfortunately instead of encountering people, he just sees trees there. I haven't programmed the townspeople into the game yet).

I intend to allow the player to interact with the townspeople, opening secret doors to get into certain areas and even get NPCs to join your party.

Still can't wait to play the finished game. But it is looking to be very well worth the wait.

Very nice round icons down there, a real touch of art :)
It's gonna be THE role playing game - I guess it will remain as a cornerstone for the years to come, not only in the VIC niche.

The round icons at the bottom denote any ongoing spell effects while the party is traveling.

Thanks all for the nice comments. Today, I programmed displaying the icons for the NPCs that you see when moving about in a city.

To the north of you is the barman, who might tell you the latest gossip if you buy some ale. To the right of you is a drunkard who might have something interesting to say. To your left appears a disgraced knight seeking an adventuring party to join in order to gain redemption.

I don't think anybody has ever thought that an rpg of this calibur could be done on the vic.
I hope this will inspire others to further push the vics potential.
