Nice two-page article in the latest issue of Retro Gamer #162
Myriad was one of the few UK games I did not play back in the days, but I remember reading suprelatives in Swedish mail order brochures.
The author Steve Clark actually had several coin-ops in his student house (he got them from pubs for "a hundred quid each").
Myriad sold 12 000 copies but he did not collect his £23 000 in royalties as shop-turned-publisher Rabbit Software went bankrupt and the boss hanged himself
Myriad was also later released as US-cartridge game Robot Panic, which was published by HES. He did not see any money from that deal either. He, however, still has fond memories of making the game and is very proud of it.

I liked Myriad too back in '83 or so. I will play it again on my VIC once I get a joystick!
Re: Making of Myriad
I loved playing this game. It was the fastest game I had in my meagre collection.
Most of the versions online, and indeed, gamebase20 run in +8k. My version runs in +3k. Two versions must have been made to accomodate the different memory configurations. As far as I can tell there are no differences between the two versions.
I am prepared to be told otherwise.

Re: Making of Myriad
I had the +3K version as well (ran with my Super Expander.)
Re: Making of Myriad
Never knew of a 3k version. Makes the programming even more impressive.
Would make a good candidate for a remake on more powerful hardware, perhaps the amiga...

One of the best games for the Vic20.
Love the multiple waves and the way the last alien from one wave can continue to make sound while the new wave makes there sound.
Just a great game that gives my favourite Jeff Minter Games and Star Defence a good run for the money.
