WIP - Vicmine

Post by litody »

Hi everyone,

I've been busy this year teaching myself 6502 assembly (mainly to fulfill one of my childhood ambitions). I have found it incredibly rewarding although at times challenging, the end result is my interpretation of Minesweeper for the unexpanded Vic 20.

It is not quite finished, I think it just needs a little bit more polish (especially the title screen) but I think the gameplay is all there, unless anyone tells me otherwise.

I still need to work on the documentation but here is a quick run down of the controls:

Menu screen -
f1, f3, f5 and f7 to start your chosen difficulty level
cursor keys to alter the size of the custom minefield
+ and - to alter the number of mines in the custom minefield
(altering the custom minefield will reset the best time for the custom difficulty setting)
R allows you to redefine the game keys (from a limited selection of keys)

Game screen default keys -
cursor keys to move around
M to flag a mine
Space bar to clear a square
f1 will toggle the ticking clock sound on/off
f2 will abort the level

Have fun and let me know what you think and any problems you run into? Personally I am not sure about the use of cursor keys to move around on a real vic, but works fine on an emulator with a full size keyboard.

John

Very nice addition to the VIC software library! I've always loved this classic.
Thank you :)

Yep now I can take a break from the usual VIC productivity software - too bad the machine isn't multitasking... YET :P
Great look and feel BTW!

Ouh! Looks nice. Shame over me that I don't try out everything. BTW I wonder why not everything new makes it into the announcement section. Our friendly computer would deserve it.

Yep litody, you really should replicate your first post in the Software Releases of 2015 thread!

Thanks guys, I will be sure to do that. I just want to tidy up the title screen a little bit before I finally declare it complete.

I have finally finished tinkering with my version of Minesweeper and have updated the above download with the final version (unless anyone runs into any problems) and an instruction manual.

Enjoy!

Good work - much better than my version (which is 100% "minimised" and obfuscated BASIC).

Maybe Cronosoft will consider this release because it's better and the colour scheme is nicer?

Thanks,

Shaun.

Thanks guy, glad you both liked it.

I had considered the possibility of a physical release, that would just be the icing on the cake, to hold a tape copy in my hand. Something I will have to look into further.
